Hold to unlock
Holding $HARNESS is one of the two ways to get Resident. Instead of paying $7.99 a month by card, you can hold the required amount of the token and Resident stays unlocked while you hold it. $HARNESS you have staked counts too.
How it works
- Link a wallet. In Settings → Plan & billing, under unlock resident, choose Hold tokens, connect your wallet, and sign a message to prove you own it. No transaction, no spend, just a signature.
- Hold the required amount. Harness reads your $HARNESS on Base directly: what is in your wallet plus what you have staked. If it meets the threshold, Resident unlocks immediately. The required amount is shown in the app.
- Keep holding. Resident stays active as long as you hold. There is nothing to renew.
Holding and paying monthly reach the same Resident. You do not get more or less by choosing one door over the other.
Rechecks, grace, and lapsing
Harness re-checks your balance over time, reading the chain (never trusting a client claim). The lapse behavior is deliberately forgiving:
- A single reading below the threshold does not strip Resident on the spot. It starts a grace period.
- If your balance stays below the threshold through the grace window, Resident lapses back to Open.
- If your balance recovers before then, Resident simply stays active.
- A temporary inability to read the chain is not treated as a zero balance. If the chain stays unreadable beyond the configured ceiling, Harness can start lapse-pending; the normal grace period still applies before Resident lapses.
Disconnecting your wallet does not sign you out; Resident ends after the grace window.
If Resident does lapse, your on-device memory is untouched. If you had encrypted backup, that is the durability layer to be aware of; see Privacy & your data.
Card and token together
You can hold and also subscribe by card. Holding keeps Resident on even if you later cancel the card, and you are never double-charged for the same plan.
