Automations

An automation lets Harness work on a schedule toward something you asked for, on Harness’s server, with no window open. Check a site every morning, keep an eye on a listing, post a weekly update to a service you use: you set the goal and the limits once, and Harness wakes on its own.

Set one up

Ask in chat, in your own words: “every weekday at 9, check my orders on example.com and tell me what shipped.” Harness agrees the details with you first:

  • How often. Every so many minutes (at least every 5), or a schedule in your own time zone.
  • Which sites it may use, up to 10.
  • How many runs a day, from 1 to 288.
  • When it ends, if it should.
  • What it may and may not do on those sites.

Then it shows a card with all of it, and the automation exists only once you approve that card.

How runs work

Each run uses your Harness credits and the conversation’s model. Models that only run on your own key cannot be used for automations.

  • A run is skipped if the day’s limit is reached or the previous run is still going.
  • Each run can take up to 30 steps.
  • After three failed runs in a row the automation pauses, and Harness lets you know.

What automations cannot do

Automations never move money. A run cannot send, buy, swap, approve or transfer anything. It can only be paid into your Bankr wallet and read that wallet’s balance.

Keys for sites

Some sites want a key before they will talk to an agent. Harness keeps these in a keystore:

  • A key a site gave you, like an API token, or a keypair Harness makes for you when a site asks you to register a public key.
  • Each key is tied for good to one site and is only ever sent there.
  • A saved key is never shown again, and a private key Harness made is never shown at all.
  • Keys are stored encrypted on Harness’s server, visible only to your account.

Manage them

Automations are managed in chat. Ask Harness to list your automations, and it shows each one’s schedule, status, next run and what recent runs did or why they were skipped. Ask it to pause, resume or delete one.

Availability

Automations are a Resident feature. If Resident ends, your automations pause. See Plans.
